Oliver Pearce is 13 years old and plays the cello and jazz piano. He attends the JRNCM every Saturday studying cello with Jen Langridge and jazz piano with Les Chisnall.
Oliver was the winner of ISA Young Musician 2023 (middle age category). Oliver has also been awarded the ABRSM Dame Colette Bowe Award for a promising cellist in 2023. Oliver is a member of the National School Symphony Orchestra and plays locally in a string orchestra and cello ensemble. Oliver enjoys taking masterclasses on Cello Dynamo with renown cellists Sandy Baillie and Joely Koos.
This year Oliver has performed solo cello at Bangor Music Festival 2023, Whittington Music Festival 2023, Rhyl Music Club Young musician recital and for Ensemble Cymru’s local stars concert in Pontio.
Oliver is lucky enough to be on the UK’s Awards for Young Musicians scheme and subsequently receives funding to be mentored by renowned pianist Sophia Rahman who plays for famous cellists such as Stephen Isserlis and Stephen Doane.
Oliver is also a keen actor. With Andrew Lloyd Webber’s West End musical ‘School of Rock’, Oliver starred as Lawrence the keyboard player for the complete 2021-2022 UK and Ireland Tour.
Oliver is very active and enjoys mountain walking, wild camping, paddle boarding, cycling, climbing, rugby and walking his two dogs with his family.
Oliver is very thankful this year to have received funding from the Conwy Excellence Fund and the Sir John Henry Morris Jones trust fund towards the costs involved with his studies. He now owns his own cello bow and is grateful to borrow a cello, which was made in Aberystwyth in the 1990’s!
