Ynys yn Arnofio: mapio sain rhyngweithiol
Floating Island: interactive sound mapping
What do you notice about the landscape and wildlife of Ynys Tysilio and its coastal surroundings?
Audio from the festival will be recorded as part of an augmented reality map of the island to which you can listen, or contribute.
To listen or contribute on the island you will need a smartphone, headphones and access to mobile data.
How to take part: Scan the QR code below or the button here:
Floating over Ynys Tysilio is a virtual map in which you can hear poems in Welsh and English that respond to this meeting point of land and sea. Add your voice to the Floating Island!
Tell us about what you notice in the island’s natural environment, using any of the following prompts.
Tell us about what you notice in the island’s natural environment, using any of the following prompts.
- Talk about the landscape, the weather, the terrain, the plant life. How would you describe it to someone who couldn’t see it?
- What birds or other wildlife can you see here now, or have you seen here before?
- What plants can you name and what do you know about them?
- Beyond the sounds of people around you, what else can you hear?
If you would like to contribute a recording, but don’t have a mobile device, or if you’d like to learn more about the mapping project you can find Joanna & Alex by the Information Gazebo on Saturday morning from 11am and Sunday Morning from 10am.
What will this be used for?
This map forms part of an artistic research and development project at Bangor University. Joanna Wright and Zoë Skoulding are testing the technology so see how it can enable different kinds of public participation in arts events, and may use this map as an example to help develop other projects. They are interested in how augmented reality mapping can allow more people to participate in events that link the arts and environmental issues.
Your consent:
By making an audio or image contribution you give consent for it to be included on the Augmented Reality map, which is available to the public. Your contribution may later be removed as the map is edited, and it will not remain online forever. You can withdraw your contribution by emailing Joanna Wright or Zoë Skoulding (address below).
This project is supported by a Bangor University Impact and Innovation Award, Placing Experiment. For any questions please contact
