About the event
A WILD MAN’S DREAMING
Mythic Tales from the Fort of Fiery Higher Powers
with Eric Maddern
Eric was born at the very edge of Empire. By the age of 11 he was living at its epicentre. A schoolmaster dubbed him ‘Abo’, a nickname that went into the making of him and later set him on a quest for ‘aboriginality’.
After a ten year odyssey around the world – including work as a bush artist in Central Australia – Eric returned to Britain looking for ‘a white man’s dreaming’: a spirituality that connected landscape, ancestors, story and soul.
By following the winking eye he found it in the mountains of Eryri, North Wales.
In this telling Eric weaves together his own personal story with mythic tales from an ancient gathering place near the foot of Yr Wyddfa, once known as the Fort of Fiery Higher Powers.
These stories – the Dragons of Beli, the Great Son of the Great Mother, the Bear King and Flower Maiden, the Cauldron of Inspiration and Merlin’s Prophecy – are the fruits of his quest. It's more a 'wild' than a 'white' man's dreaming’, a realm where the Healing Maiden weeps for the world and is renewing it with her breath.
Come enter this mythic dreamtime...
Eric Maddern is a singer, storyteller and author of children’s picture books and ‘Snowdonia Folk Tales’. Over last 36 years he has guided the creation of Cae Mabon, an eco-retreat centre once described as a ‘Welsh Shangri-La’. His memoir, ‘Heart Flung to the Wind’, will be out in 2024.
