Anastasia Zaponidou – cello
Timothius Adiel Prasetyo – piano
Having both studied at the Department of Music, Drama and Performance, at Bangor University, Timothius and Anastasia have been collaborating since 2017, as members of various ensembles, including the Bangor University Opera Society. In September of 2021, the two musicians formed a cello and piano duo, and have since performed in various settings, including at a number of events for Race Council Cymru (Bangor University 2021 and 2022), as well as at the TreeSense exhibition held at Pontio (March-May 2023), and at the Gwyl Tysilio Festival in July of 2022. The duo have also held a TAP performance class for piano students in May of 2023.
The duo are excited to be joining the Festival once more, and invite audiences to an afternoon performance of music from la Belle Époque. Inspired by the European salon culture of the 19th and early 20th centuries, this performance will explore repertoire which may have been performed during performances at the salon: informal gatherings of creatives at the home of a benefactor, where artists, writers, performers and musicians shared thoughts, recited poetry and prose, and performed music. These gatherings were a cultural hub for many creatives, and for this performance we hope to take audiences on a trip back in time, paying a tribute to the underrated significance of these events, as well as the wonderful creative and cultural space that is the Gwyl Tysilio Festival.
