2020-2021 Annual Report - Adroddiad Blynyddol
Annual Report from the Chair 2021
Our last AGM took place about six months later than usual, and so the annual report covered approximately the first eight months of the COVID 19 pandemic. This report picks up our story starting in December 2020.
As reported last time, we had a publications project to replace our guidebook as well to develop some new products. In the early weeks of 2021 we were delighted to get the first printed copies of the new guidebook (for adults) and the new explorer´s guide for younger visitors. Both are fully bilingual and very colourful. Our thanks go again to all those who helped devise, design, write, illustrate and produce them. The adult guidebook is for sale in aid of the Friends, and the children´s booklet (concertina leaflet) is free of charge. The next product to be completed was our new interpretation/information board, which was finally installed on May 20th in the car park by the gates as you step onto the island. Our thanks again to everybody who contributed, in particular Bruce Atkins who drew the map and designed the board and Femke van Gent who illustrated it.
Another project that the Friends were involved with this spring was the centenary commemoration of the War Memorial. Together with other local organisations we helped to produce a PowerPoint slide show with audio that was published on the day of the centenary, 20th April (see https://www.friendsofchurchisland.org), and a short film that will be launched on July 17th, the date of this year’s one-day Tysilio Festival. The financing of the film was achieved with donations from local voluntary organisations, individuals, the Town Council, the Dale Street Trust and the Friends. Special thanks go to Liz Moyle, from the Menai Bridge and District Civic Society, Bridget Geoghegan and Lis Perkins.
In January 2021 the Friends made an application to Keep Wales Tidy for the Green Flag Award. A site inspection took place on June 3rd, ahead of which a team of volunteers participated in a litter-picking and gardening session to make sure that our island was looking at its best! Thanks to all involved. As a reward for our application Keep Wales Tidy gave us a four new fruit trees (two apple, a pear and a plum) that we planted with our Bardsey apple tree to create a small orchard. Visitors in the autumn will, in future be treated to our very own fruit selection. We hope that we will be able to announce our Green Flag Award on July 17th.
In March 2021 the Friends were approached by the Bangor Rotary Club with an offer of trees from the Woodland Trust’s tree-planting initiative. Following a meeting between Rotary representatives and myself it was decided to look into the possibility of linking the Rotary offer with the Friends’ proposal to re-open an old path on the island. We are currently looking into the costs and the practicalities of the path with accompanying tree planting.
Finally I can report the completion of our new language policy, which states how we respect the equality of our two national languages, Welsh and English, and how we ensure that we communicate bilingually. Our policy was adapted from a template provided by Estyn, the education and training inspectorate for Wales, and approved by Menter Iaith here in Anglesey. The policy is tabled for approval at the 2021 AGM.

Adroddiad Blynyddol o’r Gadair 2021
Digwyddodd ein Cyfarfod Blynyddol diwethaf ryw chwe mis yn hwyrach na’r arfer felly gwnaeth yr adroddiad blynyddol gynnwys rhyw wyth mis o bandemig Cofid 19. Mae’r adroddiad hwn felly’n cychwyn o fis Rhagfyr 2020. Fel yr adroddwyd dro diwethaf cawsom brosiect cyhoeddi i ail osod ein llyfryn tywys yn ogystal a datblygu rhai cynhyrchiadau eraill. Yn wythnosau cyntaf 2021 cawsom foddhad o gael y copiau argraffiadol cyntaf o’r llyfr tywys newydd (i oedolion) a’r llyfr tywys newydd i’r ymchwilwyr sef i ymwelwyr ieuengach. Mae’r ddau’n ddwyieithog a lliwgar iawn. Mae’r llyfr tywys i oedolion ar werth er budd y Cyfeillion a’r llyfryn i blant (llyfryn consertina) am ddim. Y cynhyrchiad nesaf i’w gwblhau oedd ein bwrdd gwybodaeth/cyfathrebu newydd a osodwyd o’r diwedd ar Fai 20fed yn y maes parcio wrth y giatiau ar ol i chwi ddod ar yr ynys. Ein diolch unwaith eto i bawb a gyfranodd yn enwedig Bruce Atkins a ddyluniodd y map a dylunio’r bwrdd a Femke Van Gent am ei ddarlunio. Prosiect arall oedd y Cyfeillion yn ymwneud ag ef yn y Gwanwyn oedd dathliadau Canmlwyddiant y Gof Golofn. Gyda mudiadau lleol eraill a fe gynorthwywyd i gynhyrchu Pwynt Pwer o sioe sleidiau a gyhoeddwyd ar ddydd y Canmlwyddiant ar Ebrill 20fed gweler (https.//www.friendsofchurchisland.org) a ffilm fer a gaiff ei lansio ar Orffennaf 17eg sef diwrnod Gwyl Tysilio eleni. Llwyddwyd i ariannu’r ffilm gan roddion o fudiadau gwirfoddol lleol, unigolion, y Cyngor Tref ac Ymddiriedolaeth Cil Bedlam a’r Cyfeillion. Diolch arbennig i Liz Moyle, o Gymdeithas Ddinesig Porthaethwy a’r Cylch , Bridget Geoghegan a Lis Perkins.
Ym mis Ionawr 2021 gwnaeth y Cyfeillion gais i Cadw Cymru’n Daclus am y Wobr Baner Werdd. Digwyddodd archwiliad o’r safle ar Fehefin 3ydd a gwnaeth tim o wirfoddolwyr gymeryd rhan mewn sesiwn o gasglu sbwriel a garddio er mwyn iddo edrych ar ei orau. Diolch i bawb a gymerodd ran. Fel gwobr am ein cais rhoddodd Cadw Cymru’n Daclus bedair coeden ffrwythau newydd (dwy afal, gellyg ac eirin), a phlannwyd hwy gyda ein Coeden Afalau Ynys Enlli i greu perllan fechan. Caiff ymwelwyr yn yr Hydref yn y dyfodol weld ein dewis o’n ffrwythau ein hunain. Gobeithiwn y gallwn gyhoeddi ein Gwobr Baner Werdd ar Orffennaf 17eg.
Ym mis Mawrth 2021 daeth cais oddiwrth Clwb Rotari Bangor i’r Cyfeillion yn cynnig coed o Ymddiriedolaeth Coedwigaeth sy’n hyrwyddo plannu coed. Yn dilyn cyfarfod a chynrychiolwyr y Rotari a minnau penderfynnwyd i edrych i mewn i bosiblrwydd o gysylltu cynnig y Rotari a’r Cyfeillion i ail agor hen lwybr ar yr Ynys. Ar hyn o bryd yr ydym yn edrych i mewn i’r costau a’r ochr ymarferol o’r llwybr gyda plannu coed yn digwydd ar yr un pryd .
Yn olaf gallaf adrodd am gwblhau ein polisi iaith newydd, sy’n pwyleisio ar sut yr ydym yn parchu cyfartaledd ein dwy iaith genedlaethol, Cymraeg a Saesneg, a sut y gwnawn sicrhau ein bod yn cyfathrebu’n ddwyieithog. Addaswyd ein polisi o batrwmlun a baratowyd gan Estyn, arolygaeth addysg ac hyfforddiant Cymru, a chymeradwywyd gan Menter Iaith yma ym Mon. Mae’r polisi i’w gymeradwyo yn y Cyfarfod Blynyddol yn 2021.
